Why these are free
Most of these run entirely in your browser, so serving them costs nothing per use. The citation generator reads public databases — Crossref, OpenAlex, Open Library — that publishers and libraries maintain for exactly this purpose. There is no account, no watermark, and no limit on how many times you use them.
The paraphraser is the one that costs us something per rewrite, because it calls a language model. That is why it takes up to 400 words at a time rather than a whole essay. Your passage is sent to be processed and is not kept afterwards.
