Persuasion Essay Structure

  • Introduction:
    - 1 sentence = "attention - grabber"
    - "Thesis statement" - States your argument (either directly or indirectly)
  • Body:
    3 -4 supporting paragraphs
    1p. - topic sentence (idea of the section)

    Last sentence - smooth transition to the next paragraph
    2p. - topic sentence (idea of the section)

    3p - the same
  • Conclusion:
    - Contains no new information
    - Compelling summary, not just a restatement of thesis
    - Something like the lawyer's closing argument in the court=very powerful and strong

Tips to sound convincing:

  • Don't impose your opinion on the reader
  • Always support your suggestions with solid evidence
  • Consider and show respect for other opinions
  • Describe the flaws of any other alternative points of view
  • Be able to control and manipulate the reader in the course of presenting your proof
  • Be reasonable, logical and positive
