In the analytical essay (analysis essay) you will analyze, examine and interpret some event, book, work of art etc. To facilitate the writing process, break up your analytical essay into five parts:

• Introduction
• A statement of the problem
• Presentation of argument
• Analysis of the text (the longest part)
• Conclusion (related to the analysis and the argument)

In the introductory paragraph you will acquaint the reader with the text to be discussed and classify its character.

Every literary work raises at least one major problem. In the second part of your essay you will define the idea of the text under discussion.

The problem of the work is closely connected with the argument, they add up to each other. After stating the problem, present the argument. When you start analyzing the text, pay attention to the stylistic devices the author uses to convey some specific meaning. You must decide if the author accomplished his goal of conveying his ideas to the reader. Don’t forget to support your assumptions with examples and reasonable judgment.

In the conclusion of your analytical essay explain the relation between the analyzed text and the presented argument.
