How do you usually make your choice among several options? Yes, you compare them. Contrast them, paying your attention to their differences and similarities, advantages and disadvantages of each. This is what a comparison and contrast essay is all about. Before writing, note down all the similar and opposite points of the compared things. It will facilitate your writing process. In the introduction of your comparison essay identify the points of comparison and let the reader guess your preference. You may follow one of the two strategies preparing your comparison essay. Choose the first method if the compared items have a lot of little similarities and/or differences. In the first paragraphs after introduction present all the information about the first object/person. In the following paragraphs come to discussing the second one. Remember, that is not a mere description of the things, but you are to evaluate and contrast them. Use the second strategy if the objects have only a few but greater differences or similarities. In the first paragraphs of the body of your comparison essay talk about one difference or similarity for both objects. The next paragraph of the comparison essay will be devoted to discussing the second, the next to the third and so on. Be sure to present differences/similarities in the order of their importance, leaving the minor for the end. You should touch upon both issues equally; otherwise it will create a sense of disproportion. Finally, here comes conclusion. As a rule, you should restate your thesis from the introduction in it.
